During the fourth weekend of every April, downtown Barnesville is host to the annual BBQ & Blues Festival. The event is sanctioned by the Florida BBQ Association, and was declared a State Championship Cook-off by Governor Sonny Perdue in 2009. More than 45 teams compete each year in the Triple Crown Series and the coveted Jack Daniels National Qualifier Competition.
To accompany the fabulous BBQ aroma is the sound of Blues throughout the entire event. Bands from across the southeast perform Friday and Saturday on the BBQ stage. At our Saturday night concert bash located at The Ritz Park Amphitheater we always have a featured Blues headliner, present a Georgia Music Legend Award, Mayor Dewaine T. Powers’ Festival is a three day fine arts and crafts festival that raises money to put directly back into the community. The 42nd Annual Powers’ Festival will include more than 150 juried arts and crafts exhibitors that will display their hand made and hand crafted works of art. The festival also includeds the Festival of Food that features many local non profit organizations and churches off home cooking, and commercial vendors offering a variety of festival foods. Powers’ Festival also offers live entertainment the entire duration of the festival. Highlights of the festival include: demonstrations of plantation skills such as blacksmithing, chair caning, spinning and weaving, and the Powers’ Plantation orignial grist mill will be up and running. The 4-H of Coweta County also provide a childrens area with many kid friendly activites. Hours are Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
